The Moment Gunfire Erupted

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies set about removing people from the park by forming a perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems directing those gathered to clear out. Roughly 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.

Just as the crowd began to move that upwards of 20 gunshots were discharged. The rapid succession of shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Responding personnel immediately began finding those who had been shot.

Investigators located further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet damage were also found in the wrought iron perimeter fencing adjacent to the Home Depot store. The physical evidence suggested that at least one of the shooters had been Sacramento County Sheriff shooting investigation aiming south from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown for a period of time. Crime scene personnel worked tirelessly late into the evening.
